Among all five unique accessories in Resident Evil 4 Remake, the gas mask is the easiest to obtain. All you have to do is beat the game on Professional difficulty with any rank and in any time. However, as with other bonus items in RE4 Remake, it will take you a few steps to get the gas mask to appear in the game. The point is that by default:
- gas mask does not appear in inventory after unlocking:
- the gas mask effect does not work unless you change one parameter in the settings.

How to get a gas mask in Resident Evil 4 Remake
To get the gas mask, you need to complete the story campaign on Professional difficulty at any rank. You will receive the achievement "Ultimate Agent", the reward for which is a gas mask - it will appear in the bonus shop. After that, you can purchase it for 2 result points.
Note: You can open a gas mask even during the passage of the story campaign in the "New Game +" mode on the "Professional" difficulty.
What is a gas mask for in Resident Evil 4 Remake
This is an accessory that enables auto-guidance in all difficulty modes. By default, this feature is available only on Easy difficulty mode, and if you enable it on other difficulties, then your final rank for passing will be low. However, with the help of a gas mask, you can complete the story campaign on any difficulty, including Hardcore and Professional without penalties to the final rank.
How to use a gas mask in Resident Evil 4 Remake
As with other accessories, the gas mask must first be purchased from the power-up shop, after which it will become available in the game. Next, go to the "Extras" section in the main menu or in the pause menu and select a gas mask from the list of accessories for Leon.
Keep in mind that even with Leon wearing a gas mask, you will have to manually turn on the auto-target function. To do this, go to the settings, open the "Management" section and in the "Auto-guidance" line, select one of the two options - "Aiming only" or "Aiming and tracking".
Note: You can disable the effect of a gas mask only by removing it.
Is it worth wearing a gas mask
In terms of functionality, a gas mask reminiscent of Hank's helmet is far from the most suitable accessory for Leon. Instead, it is recommended to wear a chicken hat or cat ears, which have undeniable advantages - the first accessory increases Leon's health, and the second gives him infinite ammo. But since unlocking the gas mask is easy enough, sooner or later you will be able to try it out in the game. Just do not expect the same beneficial effects from it as from other rare accessories.
